My weekend of Miracles....

Does this not look like the happiest set of kids and Dad that you have ever seen in your life!? Well I will happily take all of the credit for this one...of course I had quite a bit of help from Heavenly Father.  This weekend I witnessed one miracle after another...on a trip that I really did NOT want to be a part of!

For those of you that really know me...you know that I am not a big fan of change...or stirring the pot.  I kind of like things calm and simple and extremely safe.  Well this weekend I drove with the kids down to Dahlonega Georgia which is about a 7 hour drive...unless of course you are me in which case it took about nine.  As you know already, I, by nature am a slow casual driver and extremely cautious but that is not why it took sooooo long...on the way out my gas pedal kept getting stuck and it was scaring me to death...so after talking with my friends husband I stopped  in the nearest town and found a shop to fix it...miraculously only $20 later it was fixed and I was on my way!  After a couple of hours of driving I decided to stop at Wendy's and buy some dinner.  After eating I thought that I'd call a lady that I knew was going down from FT. Bragg to visit her hubby down at Camp Merrill and see if she was able to leave yet...she was 2...I repeat 2 exits away from where we were and we met up and I had a buddy to travel with (and her 2 boys)(and her GPS System) WooHoo!  If I had called her 30 seconds later...I would have never been able to catch up to her! ...and another Miracle!
So we get to the hotel and check in and the kids were so excited only to open the door and find that they had given us a SMOKING room...hello!  So I go down to get a different room and nothing....all the rooms are full!  The kids walked into the room and were sick...they have never really ever been around smoke so I was very concerned...and next thing I know Laurie gives us her room (which I felt very badly about and refused but she insisted because of the children and the children and I were very grateful!)  Hence, another Miracle!!
Thanks to Laurie we Miraculously made it to Camp Frank D. Merrill on Saturday morning at 8 am right when we were supposed to meet Daddy...unfortunately Daddy wasn't allowed to see us until they had done their detail...(remember that they are prisoners and only allowed certain priviledges) So here we are waiting....
...still waiting
...and at about 11:30 we were doing this!!
...and this
...and a little bit of this
The girls were so happy to see their Daddy, as you can see!
Little J loved the helicopters...he's such a boy
They were flying in and hovering and doing tricks...It was pretty cool!
Here is a group of happy kiddos on Daddy's bunk...The joke was that Dad had 4 beautiful girls on his bed at one time...Nice huh?
...And here is JT...still thinking where on earth has this guy been for the past 2 1/2 months!
...as you can see he adjusted very quickly!
...JT was kicking Daddy and thought it was so funny the way Dad reacted.
...love those tender moments!
...It was difficult to get enough one on one time...all of the kids wanted to just hang on Daddy and not let go...they knew that we only had a small window and were going to use every minute!
...there was a lot of this going on!
We went on a lot of walks through the forest and Dad showed them Poison Ivy and Poison Sumac.
...Little J didn't want to let go of Daddy's hand.  It was kind of a nice break for me because he is such a Mommy's boy!
He kept laying his head down on Dad's shoulder for a snuggle...they both really needed it!
...watching the helicopters
...they had guys jumping out and sliding out of the helicopter which JT loved!
We saw lots of cool bugs...
...how often can you get a picture of a butterfly landing here on HBugs hair...Miracle!
These next two pictures are by far some of my favorites...Auby took this one while we were waiting for Dad for 3 hours...It was right above where Dad would talk to us on the phone when he would call...I was quite impressed...look closely....do you see the baby birds!  SOOOOO cute...Miracle!
And here you have one by Nanners...Look at that Mom and Dad and Five little baby birds...it doesn't get any cuter than this!!!  Another Miracle!  At about 3:40 Dad had to leave us...we were so sad...we only got 4 hours...4 hours.  A 17 hour drive  (Thanks to Laurie it wasn't longer!)  for 4 hours-it was a Miracle to see him for ALL of us.  It was truly a gift to go this weekend...you know the funny thing about it...I almost turned around after the car started acting up...It was a Miracle that I didn't!

Can you just taste that summer...

There are a few things about North Carolina that I could really get used to.  One of them being The amazing Strawberry Fields!  I used to hear people talk about strawberry patches and thought that it would be fun....but when you have Fields it is the funnest thing that a kid and a bucket could ever do (next to playing at the beach of course)!  Have you ever eaten a freshly picked strawberry...it is amazing.  There is something about the smell of the air and the sun warming those delicious strawberries...they literally melt in your mouth! But I think the best part is the joy that you see on those kids faces as they find "the biggest, reddest, yummiest treasure in the whole field...and then they find another, and another, and yet another!

South Harnett's Performing Arts Recital!
Our little Nanners also was one of the performers tonight for the Arts Recital and displayed her "Giant Junk Food"  she made a Giant sized "ICEE"  that looks good enough to gulp right down!  On display tonight were also Giant Smores, Giant Skittles, Giant Sodas, Giant Chocolate Chip Cookies and Giant Pizzas.  I don't know about you but I was getting kind of hungry looking at
all of that Yummy goodness!

HBug had her first real solo tonight (she's done solos with a group behind her) and I was so extremely proud of her!  She is such a hardworking fabulous kid!
It's really scary being up there all alone!
From now on at her school she will be known as "The Popular Girl!"
Just watch and you'll find out why!!!

(If you want to watch the video you can pause the playlist down at the bottom of the page)

Great job again to both my amazing girls!!

AL and AA made these for me at school!  These little shoes actually originally belonged to HN and perhaps even HC!  They've gotten around...SO SPECIAL!
This Mother's Day brought out a lot of reflection in my mind...reflection about being a mother and what I thought it would be and what it actually is.  It's the most challenging thing I've ever experienced in my life...or probably ever will.  I am at a lack of words about my feelings as a mother...perhaps because I haven't slept through the night or even part of a night in the past couple of years, or maybe it's because reflection only occurs when I have a free moment and ends in dozing to sleep as I park the car in the garage (which happens way too frequently).  I used to hear other Mothers talk about how they are always forgetting what they went upstairs for or forgetting IMPORTANT items at the grocery store (like the groceries), or leaving their kids at a gas station...I had a point that I wanted to make but now I have apparently forgotten but I am grateful for the privilege of being a Mom to the five greatest kids ever!  I feel inadequate, challenged, humbled, discouraged, grateful, STRESSED, blessed, loved, tired, HAPPY, and hopeful that I will come out on top of this great challenge!  Look at what a fun Mother's Day we had this year.  We had a wonderful picnic with some great, thoughtful friends!
AL was having a great time taking pictures of me and JT!

Can you guess which of these two flowers is my new favorite?
Well it's the one on top...the dandelion!  Wanna know why?  Because whenever we go outside my little prince will grab one and say "Here, Mama!"  To me it is the most beautiful flower in the world!   Now look at the picture again...knowing the story...don't you think it's the most beautiful flower in the world!!

This is actually a replica...AA made me an awesome Mother's Day card this year but somehow it got lost.  I was really disappointed that it was lost because it had a history.  You know the little paper that is left behind when you use a sheet of stickers...well we had one left over from the cards that we sent out for Mother's Day this year and I was throwing it away and AA went crazy because she had hid it in her drawer to do something with later on.  She is always hiding things in her drawer like garbage and dirty laundry (or under her pillow).  So from time to time I go through and "clean house" well she caught me throwing that treasure away and went ballistic.  I wanted her to know that I validated her feelings and if she could give me a good reason why I should give it back to her then I would...after thinking for a second she expressed,  "I'm using it for your Mother's Day card..."  What would you have done? ...So I pulled it from the garbage and gave it to her...and she really did use it!

This little treasure was from AL and inside are some beautiful homemade flowers.  On the backs of the flowers it says..."Good for 3 Kisses, Good for 3 Hugs, and Mom's Choice"  Can't wait to collect those!!

The top card is from HC and is filled with the sweetest note.  She is maturing beautifully...Not really!!!!! She's been having  huge emotional outbursts all the time and driving me bonkers!!!
Okay, so that last sentence was written by HER (starting with Not really!!!) while I was on a phone call and she is gonna pay because I'm leaving it!!
HN made me the one on the bottom the inside is a poem

Fart Salad

Okay so only those that are actually following my blog will ever see this.  I couldn't resist!  I  found this recipe yesterday...in the midst of several giggles and thought I 'd share!  It is a recipe for "Fart Salad" for anyone one that may have been looking...it is a tough one to find!!

"Fart Salad"
Two handfulls of lettuce
2 Farts

Put the lettuce in a bowl.  Sit on the bowl and fart twice. Enjoy!

Anyone willing to guess who the mastermind behind this operation was?

Come back tomorrow for the answer and a new post about Mothers Day and our trip to the strawberry fields!
